Professor Sumeet Walia is a leader in advanced materials engineering at RMIT University, Melbourne. He is the Director of RMITs Leading Research Centre for Opto-electronic Materials and Sensors (COMAS). His groundbreaking research in ultra-thin semiconductor materials drives innovations across energy, optoelectronics, sensors, and healthcare applications.
With over 160 peer-reviewed publications, 12 patents, and two edited books, Professor Walia bridges fundamental discovery with real-world impact through strategic industry partnerships that drive academia-industry as well as industry to industry linkages. His exceptional contributions have earned prestigious recognition, including the Eureka Prize for Science Leadership and selection as one of MIT Technology Review’s Top 10 Innovators in APAC.
Beyond research excellence, Professor Walia champions equity, diversity and inclusion in STEM having performed a range of voluntary roles. He has also served on advisory board roles for learned academies and government bodies.
